Chris enjoyed an incredible football career at the top level of the game in England and France, starting his career with hometown club Newcastle United in 1980.
He went on to play for Tottenham Hotspur and enjoyed his most successful spell in France with Marseille, winning the French title three times in a row between 1990 and 1992.
The fee of £4.5million paid by Marseille to Spurs was, at the time, the third highest transfer fee in football history.
Chris played 62 times for England between 1985 and 1991, including an acclaimed display at the 1990 World Cup in Italy, despite missing one of the two penalties that saw England lose at the semi-final stage to West Germany.
After leaving Marseille in 1992, Chris enjoyed spells with Sheffield Wednesday, Falkirk, Bradford City, Burnley and Torquay United, before playing for several non-league sides.
After coming out of retirement in 2013 to play for Hallam, Chris rejoined the Sheffield amateur side in 2023 at the age of 62!
His media roles include regular stints as a summariser on BBC Radio 5 Live and a column in the Sun newspaper.
