One of the most naturally talented players to grace the English game, Matt spent his entire professional career with Southampton, making more than 400 appearances.
Despite scoring more than 160 goals for Saints, Matt was often overlooked for England honours, winning only eight caps between 1994 and 1997.
Known for his prowess from the penalty spot, Matt scored 47 of 48 penalties during his professional career, with Nottingham Forest's Mark Crossley having the honour of being the only goalkeeper to deny him from 12 yards.
A legend at Southampton, where he's known as Le God, Matt has a suite named after him at Saints' St Mary's home and remains a huge supporter of the club he represented with distinction for 16 years.
After leaving Southampton, he spent time with non-league Eastleigh, where he won the Wessex League title in 2002.
His media career has included a long stint on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday, where he was a regular alongside Paul Merson and Jeff Stelling until 2020.
